That puts total mintage of the Half Dollar at 10.8 million for the year. The Mint reported 1.7 million Half Dollars were minted in the month, all in Philadelphia. The last coin with reported production in May from the Mint was the Kennedy Half Dollar. For the year, the United States Mint has minted 1.3738 billion Quarters for circulation, an increase of 30% over the total production through May of last year. The Washington Quarter saw the biggest month-over-month production increase, jumping 21.4%. Of that total production in the month, 167.2 million were minted in Denver, with the remaining 173.2 million produced in Philadelphia. The Mint does not break down which of the various quarter designs made up the total production figure. The Washington Quarter saw a total production of 340.4 million Quarters in May 2023. Year-over-year, the 2023 minting of Dimes is ahead of last year through May by 29%. For 2023, total Roosevelt Dime production stands at 1.6415 billion pieces. When compared to April, Dime production rose 14%.
Breaking down the total, it shows that 188 million were produced at the Denver Mint, with the remaining 190 million minted in Philadelphia. Turning to the Roosevelt Dime, it too saw an increase in production month-over-month, ending May with a reported 378 million Dimes minted. Unlike the Lincoln Cent, however, Jefferson Nickel production is up 18.6% when compared to total production through May 2022. The May production figure represents an increase of 9.9% month-over-month from April, with total production for 2023 now at 760.32 million Jefferson Nickels. Of that, 85.2 million were minted in Denver, while the remaining 84.48 million were produced in Philadelphia. Total production in May 2023 of the Jefferson Nickel was 169.68 million Nickels according to the Mint’s report. When compared to the 2022 production figures through May, minting of Cents is down 34%. For the year, the Mint has now made 2.322 billion Cents for circulation. Of the 528 million Cents minted, both the Denver and Philadelphia Mint reported a production figure of 264 million coins. This is up 9.6% over the 481.6 million the Mint reported producing in April. The United States Mint has released its Circulating Coin Production Report for May 2023, showing that 1.417 billion coins were produced for circulation across the nation’s Mint facilities.
